The “Travel for Purpose Program” by Partners in Health Tanzania (PH-Tanzania), in collaboration with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and local Government in Tanzania is a transformative initiative designed to engage individuals from around the world in meaningful travel experiences contributing to the improvement of healthcare and well-being in Tanzanian communities. This program offers participants a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local cultures, understand healthcare challenges, and actively contribute to sustainable development.

The World Health Organization estimates that 7,000 newborns and 810 women die each day due to preventable pregnancy-related causes. With tailored maternal and child health training, we provide capacity building for local healthcare professionals on pregnancy and prenatal care, particularly those working in the field of maternal and newborn health in rural Tanzania. This exercise is designed for midwives, nurses, gynecologists, obstetricians, general practitioners, and health officers, especially those working in resource-restricted areas.

Through collaboration with global health professionals, we aim to strengthen the capacity of healthcare providers by providing maternal health education to ensure quality and respectful maternal and newborn care in rural Tanzania. Our training will be conducted face-to-face through appealing global healthcare professional approaches.

Participants in the program have the chance to engage in various activities while in Tanzania, including:

·  Delivering healthcare services, conducting health screenings, providing care and treatment services, and offering education to the community.

·     Sharing social-cultural knowledge, learning experiences, and expertise with the local community and stakeholders.

·

Non-healthcare professionals are also invited to visit Tanzania for tourism, including mountain climbing (Kilimanjaro) and visiting national parks. They will be connected to White Snow Travel, a travel and tour company offering affordable packages. A percentage of the cost will be dedicated to covering health expenses for pregnant women and newborns in Tanzania.

The “Travel for Purpose” program encourages participants to broaden their horizons, cultivate a sense of global citizenship, and develop a deeper appreciation for diverse cultures. Through active involvement and collaboration, participants are encouraged to contribute to sustainable healthcare solutions, leaving a lasting positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities in Tanzania.
